District Ten Pin Bowling Night

On the 14th October, the District Team arranged for a 10 Pin Bowling night.

Beaver Scouts from colonies all over Hyndburn came together to compete for a place in the District County Curling Competition which would take place later in the month. One beaver Scout from each team who received the highest score was selected to represent Hyndburn.

Our ADC, Tracy, reported that Hyndburn District won the competition and all the children were presented with medals and a blanket badge for taking part.

Well done !!

Keep Fit Night

The beaver scouts have been working hard towards gaining both their "Health and Fitness" badge and also towards their "Fitness Challenge" award this term.

As part of our keep fit night, we invited one of our beaver scouts parents to come along and show us some basic stretching and warm up exercises and a little bit of Jujutsu !!


The boys, leaders and the odd parent who stayed behind, joined in and had a thoroughly good time.

Wild Wild West !

On Saturday 20th September, the Wild West Fun Day was held at Bowley Scout Camp.

1st Baxenden took part along with 7 other Colonies in Hyndburn. It was a fabulous, hot (yes hot) day with lots of cowbow-themed activities and shows for the Beaver Scouts and Leaders to enjoy.

Cheeky Monkey Marathon Challenge - Update

Our Beavers Scouts undertook the Cheeky Monkey Marathon Challenge whilst on camp in June to raise money for Children with Leukaemia.

In total they raised over £185.00 which is a staggering amount - well done boys !! those of you who collected sponsorship will be getting your keyrings etc when you come back in September.

Almost 600,000 children have taken part in the Challenge, raising a staggering £9 million for what is a fantastic cause.

Beavers Day Trip

On Saturday 12th July, Baxenden’s beaver scouts and the beaver scouts for All St’s Clayton Le Moors and 109th Loyola oswaldtwistle, went on a fabulous day trip to Hesketh Park Farm, situated on the Bolton Abbey Estate in the Yorkshire Dales.

The Farm boasts Sheep, Cattle, Pigs (which we brushed), Goats, Hens, Donkeys, Ponies, Rabbits, Guinea Pigs and a giant Tortoise, many of which the beavers where fortunate enough to freely handle and feed.

We all took a trip on the tractor tour to see the giant Belgian Blue Bull, and we where lucky enough to also get the opportunity to collect eggs from the hen houses.

Whilst the leaders chilled with beverages, the Beavers used the opportunity to spend some time climbing around on the outdoor adventure playground, whizzing round on the pedal go-kart track or just enjoying some time in the indoor play area on the pedal tractors and straw maze.

We had a really fantastic day:- thanks to Claire Rothwell, All St’s Tuesday Beavers, for inviting our colony along and sorting out all the arrangements for both groups.

Miniture Railway at Edisford Bridge

We took at trip to Edisford Bridge this week, so that the Beaver Scouts could have an evening of fun riding on the miniture railway, which is run by volunteers from Ribble Valley, and one of our Beaver Scout Leaders, Martin, from All Saints Mercer Colony - thanks very much Martin !!!

We really had a fab time, all be it that it poured down the whole evening, and needless to say that we all got very, very wet !!


The beavers loved it, and I think the rain made it all the more fun !!

Family Activity Night

The Beavers' their parents and friends where invited to attend our family fun night at Bowley to partake in a bit of archery and shooting.





We had a really fantastic turnout with many willing parents having a try.






Amazingly, we have 1 or 2 beaver scouts who can actually shoot the air rifle and hit the middle of the target, let alone the target at all !!

Bring on the competition Hyndburn!!

Giant Sleepover Update

Great News!

At 10.50 am today confirmed participants in this year’s event broke the Guinness World Record of 33,093 !!

Giant Sleepover - Ashworth Valley Scout Camp

On Saturday 14th June 2008, Baxenden Beavers participated in the Guiness Book of World Records Giant Sleepover Event.

This event consisted of thousands of children all around the world joining together to have lots of fun and hopefully break the 2006 Guinness World Record for the 'biggest simultaneous sleepover across multiple locations'.

We also undertook the Cheeky Monkey Marathon Challenge, which is a registered charity for children with Leukaemia, we got the beavers completing a short running circuit - 13 times and also 13 times round the adventure playground, which was easier and far more fun!

For the few that still had some energy to spare we also did 13 trips down the slide!

The Beavers had a fab time, and all eagerly finished the course with big smiles.

Hopefully they will be able to generate a nice amount of sponsorship for the charity (Please)

Whilst on our sleepover we also completed the Ashworth Valley Scout Camp Beaver Hunt, did some grass sledging, had a BBQ, sang about squashing bumble bees at our camp fire and generally had a fun time running wild!

Thanks to Stuart and Craig for all their help over the weekend you where both real stars! Thanks especially to Tracy for her ongoing support and valuable expereince in helping me organise and run the sleepover.

Thanks also to Skip for being so patient with me and going out of his way to help us give the Beavers a really great expereince of Scout Life !

Water World Day 7th June 2008

The Beavers Scouts gathered in the 100s for the Water World Day at Bowley Scout camp on Saturday. We had a fantastic afternoon, with loads of water activities for them to take part in. It was fun filled, wet and really exhausting with the beavers having the freedom to take part in as many or few of the activities as they wanted.

I think the biggest hit was the pirate raft - Baxenden managed to dunk the pirate (who did look vaguely familiar???? whoo hoooo - well done boys !!

All the Beavers who attended received the Adventure Activity Badge and a bag of sweets for the journey home!

Thanks to all the parents for braving the traffic and car parking nightmre !! I think it was worth it overall, the beavers behaved exceptionally well and where a pleasure to be with !



Fianlly, just to let you know that a donation of 10p from each ticket sold will also go to Water Aid - so thats good too!
