The County Akeema took place today at Bowley Scout Camp. Four districts entered the competition including Hyndburn (us), Clitheroe, Burnley and Rossendale.
There where seven bases, which included bean bag tin can alley, penalty shoot out, box and broom, ball and bucket (parachute game), twister memory game, dress up sack race and of course a rest station with drinks and biscuits!
We all had a really fantastic morning. As with the District Akeema, our beavers, I'm proud to say where extremely well behaved and genuinely really enjoyed the event.
Steven and I however are now completely hoarse!
When the results came through that our team had won, we jumped with joy (the leaders that is) and it goes without saying, that the beavers where also thrilled.
We all received certificates and medals, and we will now get the Hyndburn District name added to the County Trophy!
Watch out for our photos in the Accrington Observer !!

Blackburn Museum
Blackburn Museum kindly accepted the challenge of entertaining our beaver scouts this week.
We had arranged a private session to discuss and explore the History of Ancient Egypt which included seeing the Egyptian Mummy, handling some very old artefacts.

Nightrider Scout Express
This was a particularly exciting event for the beaver scouts as this was the first time the event had taken place on a mass scale.
The Diesel Scout Nightrider event, arranged by the East Lancashire (Heritage) Railway took place on the 14th - 15th of March 2009. The train run throughout the night through the Irwel valley and surrounding countryside, from Heywood to Rawtenstall. True Scouting activities where also included such as a Campfire at Heywood Station and a Scouts own, Sunday morning.
The beavers, and three scouts, who took part in the sleepover received a special certificate, and a limited edition sleepover badge.
Thank you to Tracy, Steven, Michelle and Lee who bravely agreed to come along to this "stay over", your help as always was much appreciated.
Personally not too sure I'll be volunteering for this one next year - severe sleep deprivation is really not my thing - but the beavers really, really enjoyed it!

Community Support Officer Visit
We have been working hard towards our Friendship Challenge and Safety badges this term.
On the 5th March we arranged a visit by PCSO Suzanne Taylor, our local police officer for Baxenden. PCSO Taylor delivered a really interesting session, discussing personal safety, road safety and a brief overview of her other very important roles within Baxenden. The beaver scouts where then given the opportunity to discuss their thoughts and ask questions.
Needless to say I think they all really enjoyed the discussions and the opportunity to have a look at the PC's uniform and essential offical equipment close up.
I'm not sure why, but they where particularly well behaved that night???
